The Coal Room - Paperback

The past has a way of staying buried...until it doesn't.

In Minneapolis, Delaney Black's life is a disintegrating. Crushed by a toxic, controlling marriage and blindsided by divorce papers, the news of her estranged father's death offers a grim escape: a return to her desolate hometown of Everwind, North Dakota.

But Everwind is a place where time stands still. When a charming man in a 1950s station wagon named Glade Whitlock picks her up at the station, Delaney doesn't realize she's stepping into a ghost story. To the rest of the world, Glade's house is a rotting ruin and his name is a footnote in a 1952 cold case. To Delaney, he is a living mystery with a blood connection to her family that defies the laws of nature.

As Delaney unearths her father's obsessive history projects, she discovers a dark betrayal and a secret hidden beneath two tons of coal in a basement that should be empty. But an unknown murderer isn't her only threat. Her husband has tracked her to North Dakota, and his desperation is turning deadly. In a town built on silence, Delaney must dig up the truth to save a restless soul - and herself.
