The Chain That Is Round Us - Paperback

In The Chain That Is Round Us, Jeff Lightfoot presents a piercingly intimate journey through the life of Tom, a former scientist turned rideshare driver, who traverses the city streets while grappling with the wreckage of his past. From childhood abandonment and rural poverty to broken marriages and unrealized dreams, Tom's story unfolds in layered flashbacks and vignettes that blend humor, melancholy, and raw truth. His passengers come and go, but their brief presences stir deeper reflections on failure, identity, and fleeting connection. Set against the backdrop of urban chaos and suburban isolation, this novel is a haunting meditation on the invisible weight of memory and regret. Lightfoot's prose is unsentimental yet deeply moving, inviting readers to examine the quiet heartbreaks that shape our lives. The Chain That Is Round Us is a bold, unflinching portrait of a man tethered to his past, searching for meaning in the rearview mirror.
