Estes, Curtis L.: - Curtis L. Estes was born in Texas in 1934 and graduated from Prairie View A&M in 1955. After serving in the U.S. Army he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1963 where he continued his work as a Public School teacher and, after a twenty year career in education, developed a landscape design and gardening business before retiring. His earlier short memoir Plight, about growing up on a farm in segregated Texas, now is housed with the Mark Twain Papers at the Bancroft Library in Berkeley.
