The Biglow Papers is a collection of satirical poems written by James Russell Lowell, originally published in 1848. The poems are written in the voice of Hosea Biglow, a fictional New England farmer, and address political and social issues of the time, including the Mexican-American War and slavery. The poems are humorous and witty, but also contain serious commentary on the state of American society. The collection is considered a classic of American literature and is often studied in literature and history classes.1900.
