The Bellarmine-Jefferson Legend And The Declaration Of Independence - Paperback

The Bellarmine-Jefferson Legend And The Declaration Of Independence is a scholarly work by David Schley Schaff that explores the influence of the Catholic theologian Robert Bellarmine on the political philosophy of Thomas Jefferson and the drafting of the Declaration of Independence. Schaff argues that Bellarmine's ideas about natural law, popular sovereignty, and resistance to tyrants were central to Jefferson's thinking and the language of the Declaration. The book traces the history of Bellarmine's ideas in Europe and their dissemination in America, and provides a detailed analysis of the Declaration's language and its connection to Bellarmine's thought. The Bellarmine-Jefferson Legend And The Declaration Of Independence is a valuable resource for scholars of American history, political theory, and Catholic intellectual history.A Paper Read Before The American Society Of Church History December 27, 1926, And Appearing In Volume VIII Of The Societys Proceedings. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
