Visiting the battlefield in 1889, Field walked the grounds with four eyewitnesses to the combat--three of them were Confederate soldiers. A contemporary take on the Battle of Franklin by men who were there and were apprised of the situation at Spring Hill, Tennessee and Franklin alike.
