That Night, a Monster . . . - A Graphic Novel About Imagination

Thomas is a friend to all plants, including his beloved cactus collection. One morning, he makes a startling discovery: his mother has been replaced by a fern—a monstrous fern. This beautifully painted all-ages graphic novel follows Thomas as he confronts questions that spiral from confusion to wonder. Did the fern eat her? Where did this creature come from? Will it consume his father next, and then Thomas himself?

A Story That Mirrors Our Strange World

That Night, A Monster . . . explores imagination through both its power and its dark side. The narrative blends strangeness and silliness in ways that young readers will immediately recognize as reflections of their own experiences. As Eleanor Davis, author of Stinky and How to Be Happy, notes: "Lovingly written and painted, this strange and silly book will delight everyone who reads it. The grown-up people who read it may find it confusing. But young people, I think, will understand that in its strangeness and silliness it mirrors our own strange and silly world."

Perfect for Young Graphic Novel Readers

This hardcover graphic novel is designed for readers ages 9-12, making it an excellent choice for independent reading, classroom libraries, and reluctant readers who respond to visual storytelling. The painted illustrations bring Thomas's world to life, creating an immersive experience that bridges the gap between picture books and chapter books.
