R&B tenor saxophonist Samy Taylor had recorded in the early '50's. This sideman became "The Man,". His recordings usually featured Taylor the balladeer backed by string orchestras. But the label also cut his horn loose to do what it did best: R&B straight up. That's what you have here. The Man with the Beat includes the original pre- Jon Hendricks "Cloudburst," taken from his blistering tempo.
