Taste of Salt and Iron - Paperback

In the inverted city of Salinae, sin is not a metaphor. It is a salt that kills.

Mina Vallow is a Sin-Taster. In a world carved miles deep into a magical salt flat, the guilt of the wealthy calcifies on their skin like a deadly frost. To save them, Mina must lick the salt from their bodies, absorbing their sins so they can remain pure. She is a member of the lowest caste-perpetually thirsty, reviled, and necessary.

Daven Krell is the Geode-Warden. He hunts the "Calcified"-those fully consumed by their sins and turned to statues. Cold, rigid, and slowly turning to diamond under the pressure of his work, he mines the statues for the powerful sin-crystals that power the city. He is the law, and he has never met a sinner he couldn't break.

When Mina tastes a high-ranking official and finds not the bitterness of guilt, but the sweet tang of a synthetic drug, she is arrested for "False Tasting." dragged before the Warden, she expects execution. Instead, Daven realizes that Mina is the only biological detector capable of tracking a new poison threatening to turn the entire city into stone. Chained together in the dark, they must descend into the belly of the world, where they will discover that the city isn't just a mine-it's a mouth.

A gritty, sensory Dark Romantasy where survival tastes like salt and love is the hardest mineral of all.
