This hardcover edition brings together two of Charles Williams' most profound poetic works: Taliessin through Logres (1938) and The Region of the Summer Stars. These companion volumes represent Williams' unique reimagining of Arthurian legend and the Holy Grail mythology, standing as essential works within the Inklings literary circle.

About This Edition

Published by Apocryphile Press, this collector's edition features a new introduction by Williams scholar Sørina Higgins, providing contemporary readers with essential context for understanding these complex poetic narratives. Both complete works are presented together in a single hardcover volume.

The Poetry

When Taliessin through Logres was published in 1938, it received widespread critical acclaim. The poetry is technically virtuosic, musically beautiful, and conceptually complex. It is densely packed with layers of symbolism and rich imagery that are not initially easy to understand, but that scintillate with ever greater brilliance upon repeated readings.

W.H. Auden noted: "The more I read Taliessin through Logres and The Region of the Summer Stars, the more rewarding I find them.... Charles Williams has his own mythology which a reader must master."

The Grail Poems

These volumes contain Williams' Grail poems, a reworking of the theme of the Holy Grail into a poetic myth of unusual wisdom and contemporary significance. C.P. Crowley described them as "some of the most fascinating poetry written in our time" and "a unique handling, a fresh vision, of an old subject-matter which has been almost completely neglected in English literature."

For Readers Of

This collection appeals to readers interested in 20th century British poetry, Arthurian literature, Christian symbolism, medieval themes, and the works of the Inklings. The poems reward multiple readings, revealing new layers of meaning with each encounter. Williams' distinctive mythology blends Arthurian legend with theological concepts, creating a poetic landscape unlike any other in English literature.

Both Taliessin through Logres and The Region of the Summer Stars are designed to challenge and reward dedicated readers. This hardcover edition from Apocryphile Press preserves these important works for contemporary audiences and collectors of literary fiction and British poetry.
