Gayle, a US citizen who was born in the Caribbean island of Jamaica, has had the opportunity to encounter and engage with many cultures, while traveling internationally, in the course of careers in diplomacy, business consultancy, academic research, and university leadership. These careers took him to countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Japan and China. These experiences have enriched his life in many ways. He enjoys eclectic reading, thinking, writing, meditating, listening to relaxing music, gardening, walking in natural settings - including the Japanese style pastime of "forest bathing," photography and of course, swimming. As a teenager who wrote poetry, he contributed to published anthologies, over the years, and eventually published his first book of poetry, "On The Beach," in 2018. Having completed his first literary novel, "Swimming at Sunset," he is already enjoying the "wool gathering" stage of planning a new book, making his intended work play."
