Stories My Father Told Me - Paperback

Through the eyes of Eric, Haskell Brodsky's eldest son, the novel weaves together the multigenerational tale of a Polish Jewish family whose journey begins in the shtetls of Eastern Europe and carries them to the bustling streets of mid-twentieth-century New York City.

Rich with the warmth and humor of immigrant life, this deeply personal chronicle captures the enduring spirit of a family determined to overcome hardship and embrace opportunity. From harrowing escapes from persecution to the vibrant chaos of Ellis Island, each chapter brings to life the struggles and triumphs of creating a new identity in a foreign land.

Haskell Brodsky, a young man with courage, wit, and entrepreneurial spirit, is at the story's heart. His journey from a modest tailoring family in Poland to a thriving multi-million-dollar business in Manhattan is an ode to persistence and ingenuity. Intertwined are tales of love, loss, and community, and colorful characters-from a brilliant daughter demanding her place in the family legacy, her competitive brothers, interference from the mob, and the resilience and heart of a family navigating the complexities of identity, tradition, and progress.

Ubell's prose is filled with vivid storytelling and timeless lessons, inviting readers to reflect on their own family histories and the universal desire for belonging and success. Stories My Father Told Me is more than a novel-it celebrates the human spirit in a tribute to the dreams and sacrifices that define us, and it is a reminder of the stories that shape who we are.
