Reviews: "Beth Schorr Jaffe nails the damage secrets foment in a family. And she does it with a freshness, passion, and prose so exquisitely precise, her words feel like a gift. I couldn't put Stars of David down." -Patricia Volk, author of STUFFED: Adventures of a Restaurant Family"Stars of David is a wonderful novel. This book is about real human beings with real concerns, and it shows a fine understanding about what is really important as people progress through their lives. Beth Schorr Jaffe's first novel is a gem, and I am already anxious to read her second."-Susan Fromberg Schaeffer, Professor Emerita, Brooklyn College; Alexander White Professor of English, The University of Chicago, and author of The Snow Fox, The Autobiography of Foudini M. Cat, and Poison"This is a remarkable work, one which lucidly describes both the passions and pains that permeate all families. Beth Schorr Jaffe has written a wonderful, compelling debut novel."-Roger Granet, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College and author, Surviving Cancer Emotionally: Learning How to Heal.Stars of David is a compelling story exploring the dangerous secrets of one man-a cantor renowned in the New York City Jewish community-who causes trauma and nearly unbearable pain for his family's next generation. Who really was the charismatic cantor David Kaplan? Why did he leave his son Eli to go to China to die and then have his nephew Adam retrieve his body? And why did the dying cantor declare he no longer believed in God? After his death, his son, his nephew, and the women they love must learn to transcend his pernicious legacy of abuse and care.

Beth Schorr Jaffe was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1952, grew up in Canarsie on Avenue 'K', took the Avenue 'J' bus to Brooklyn College, and graduated with a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing. One day after graduation she married and continued writing her first novel, a painful autobiographical piece that she admits was best left lost. While she wrote and raised her sons she spent time attending various Universities studying art history, interior design, and abnormal psychology, all lifelong passions. Listing her most recent writing accomplishments: Simon and Schuster published her essay "Pretty Enough" in the book Chocolate for a Teen's Soul, and then published her essay "Her Majesty's Muscle" in their book Chocolate for a Women's Dreams. Kalliope: a Journal of Women's Literature and Art published her short story, "Hard Shiny Message." Fairview Press published, "Walk Me into the Morning" in the book Women with Cancer and the People who Love Them and Haworth Press published an excerpt from her first novel STUCK (not yet released) entitled, "Transference" and a poem "Just One Question Doctor, About My Termination" in, the book Escaping the Yellow Wallpaper. All of which can be found on Amazon. She is currently working on her memoir, whose first chapter "The Glamorous Years" written about the years before she was three, was accepted for publication in The Rambler magazine and was in bookstores November 2008. When she is not writing, Beth still helps her husband in his medical practice, studies psychology, buys design supplies in case she takes up staging homes for a living, and enjoys her grown sons, whenever they honor her with a phone call or brief visit. Beth wrote her novel STARS OF DAVID after someone told her about the Jews in Shanghai during and following World War II.
