Soonish: Ten Emerging Technologies That'll Improve And/Or Ruin Everything
This New York Times bestseller and Wall Street Journal Best Science Book of the Year offers an illustrated investigation into the future technologies that will shape tomorrow. Created by celebrated cartoonist Zach Weinersmith and researcher Dr. Kelly Weinersmith, Soonish examines ten emerging fields through humor, rigorous research, and trademark comics from Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.
What's Inside
The book explores ten different emerging technologies including programmable matter, augmented reality, space elevators, robotic construction, nuclear fusion, 3D organ printing, and robot swarms. Each chapter investigates why these technologies are needed, how they would work, and what obstacles stand in their way.
Through interviews with scientists making these advances happen, combined with original research and illustrated explanations, the Weinersmiths reveal that progress rarely comes from isolated geniuses. Instead, future technologies require numerous intermediate developments, many appearing irrelevant when first discovered. The journey involves strange detours and blind alleys that illuminate both human ingenuity and the march of civilization.
