You will spend roughly one-third of your life asleep - and you have almost certainly never been taught why, or what happens when it goes wrong.

Sleep: The Psychology of Rest takes readers inside the science and psychology of sleep: the circadian clock that governs when you feel alert or exhausted, the REM cycles that process your emotions overnight, and the cognitive patterns that turn a few bad nights into chronic insomnia. Written for students and curious readers alike, it explains not just what the research says, but why it matters and what to do with it.

Across thirteen chapters, readers explore how sleep shapes memory, emotion, decision-making, and physical health; how disorders from insomnia to sleep apnea develop and are treated; and how dreaming fits into the larger story of the resting brain. The book closes with a practical framework for building a personal sleep plan grounded in the same evidence it teaches.

Informed, clear, and genuinely useful - this is the sleep education most people never received.
