Skill Sharpeners Spell and Write Grade 1 is its own workbook, not the Spectrum or Building Spelling Skills titles searchers often have in mind.
The design is simple and it works: a short colour story introduces the week's words in context, then the activities make the child use them rather than copy them out.
What's inside
Twelve units, eight new words each, grouped by pattern rather than at random. Vowel lengths, digraph pairs and doubled consonants arrive as families instead of a list. Grammar, punctuation and some creative writing come with them.
