Sketches of English Life and Character; With Sixteen Reproductions from the Paintings of Stanhope A. Forbes - Paperback

"Sketches of English life Character" is a vintage book by Mary Russell Mitford on the subject of English daily life, manners, and customs. Mary Russell Mitford (1787 - 1855) was an English dramatist and author best known for her book "Our Village", which contained a series of sketches of typical English village life and characters based upon life in Three Mile Cross, a hamlet in the parish of Shinfield, near Reading in Berkshire, England. Not dissimilar to "Our Village", this volume offers a unique glimpse into "the English", making it highly recommended for anyone with an interest in traditional English culture and customs. Contents include: "A Great Farmhouse", "A Country Cricket Match", "A Village Beau", "Tom Cordery", "Bramley Maying", "A Country Apothecary", "The Copse", "Whitsun Eve", "The Rat-Catcher", "Whitsun Eve", "The Bird-Catcher", "A Visit", "Hannah Bint", "Doctor Tubb", "A Country Barber", etc. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in a new, affordable, modern edition complete with the original text and artwork.
