"As she boarded the flight to Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Saakshi could almost hear her heart thumping outside her body. This was her first trip abroad. A foreign land. The first time that she was using her passport."
Shifting Sands of Saudi is an expatriates' account of how a young couple loved and lived their life in 1990s Saudi. Follow Saakshi, a young, ambitious expatriate woman as she navigates cultural complexities, strict social standards, and repressive regulations.
Sandhya Prakash, the author, takes you through various aspects of the Kingdom in the desert and through Saakshi, helps you witness the dunes and caves, female friends, compound life, exploring her relationships with her drivers and chauffeurs, men and Mutawas as she travels to various cities on work and for pleasure.
Looking through the rear-view mirror of the car that she was disallowed from driving, this Shifting Sands of Saudi is an attempt to capture a moment back in time when it was tough for women to navigate the personal and professional landscape of Saudi.
This book is for you if you are attempting to break out of a prison of your own making. Every chapter brings you a life lesson.
"A fascinating peek into the modern history of Saudi Arabia through the lens of a young Indian woman. Shifting Sands of Time paints a vivid picture of a constantly stereotyped, yet unfamiliar world to most of us."

"I had the opportunity to connect with Sandhya Prakash and exchange ideas during my time in Saudi Arabia. It's truly inspiring to see individuals like her who demonstrate courage and persistence in their professional lives. Writing a book is an incredible endeavor, and I'm sure Sandhya's experiences will provide valuable insights into her journey. I wish her the best of luck with her book, and I hope it resonates with readers who are interested in learning more about the unique experiences of women working publicly in Saudi Arabia."
