"Is that a right of life when the young children of this country are being reared into a sphere which is more owned by 12 men than it is by 120,000,000 people?" --Every Man a King, Huey Long (1934)

In 1934, Louisiana left-wing populist Huey Long founded the "Share Our Wealth" movement in order to promote greater equality in America in response to the increasing gap between rich and poor during the Great Depression.

Long then released Share Our Wealth--A Manual for the Share Our Wealth Society (1934), with guidelines on how to attract members and build local chapters, information and statistics about the economy, Long's speeches and comments about capitalism by "the leaders of all times," such as Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Pope Pius XI, and Plato. Within one year, this movement had grown to 27,000 chapters with 7.5 million members and 25 million listeners to Long's radio show.

Share Our Wealth is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of a radical leftist movement.
