In 1868, in a small town in Texas, Martha McWhirter peered into a limestone cave, looking for eggs from her chickens. Who knew making a living could be this circular, she thought. And obstinate. Sanctified is a novel of historical fiction based on the story of the first safe house for women, and The Women's Commonwealth of Belton, Texas, who established it.
