Salt Spring Island is one of the beautiful Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia, between mainland BC and Vancouver Island. It was the first of the Gulf Islands to be settled by agriculturalists, after being inhabited by Salishan Indigenous peoples for thousands of years.

It is the largest, most populated, and most frequently visited -- by tourists -- of the Southern Gulf Islands, with about 12,000 permanent inhabitants, and the landscape ranges from verdant sea-level meadows and beaches to 700 metre-high Bruce Peak.

Celebrated photographer Janis Kraulis has lived in Salt Spring for many years. He loves the landscape, trees, flowers and wildlife, and has created a lovely portrait of a beautiful place.
