The American Civil War brought forth several notable soldiers and commanders on both the Union and Confederate sides of the conflict. Ross's brigade consisted of the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 27th (sometimes known as the 'Legion') Texas cavalry regiments. This famous unit saw hard service in many engagements of the conflict including the Atlanta Campaign.
