Doug was born in Canada and educated in Selkirk, Manitoba. His maternal grandparents emigrated from Iceland to Manitoba in 1902. Stories told by his grandfather about Iceland and his Viking heritage stimulated Doug's fertile imagination at a young age. This background produced the roots for "Rorkruuuml;un, The Mystic Sword of Justerealm." Doug's vivid imagination propels the reader to the heart of each adventure encountered by the heroes of the story.
After leaving Selkirk he lived in Winnipeg, Canada's far North, Toronto, Niagara Falls and the Vancouver area. Doug's love of the outdoors drew him to the wilderness areas of Canada and the northern land of the tundra.
During his various business positions he traveled throughout Europe and the Orient. The many experiences and adventures during these travels enlivened his story telling ability.
