St. Philip's was one of the ten original parishes created by the Church Act of 1706. Considering that the state of South Carolina did not officially record vital records until 1911 makes any resource that mentions these items of extreme importance to the genealogists. In 1751 the parish covering Charleston was divided into two parishes. This register is filled with births, christenings, marriages, and burials of all persons from Charleston from 1720-1758. The index mentions approximately 9,500 entries.
