A widowed mother's life unravels after she thinks she's seen her long-dead husband in this thriller from the author of Creatures Here Below.
"This engaging literary thriller from Bennett . . . ratchets up the tension, and delivers satisfying revelations at the climax, revealing a humane and intriguing story of personal redemption." --Publishers Weekly
When their car plummeted off a bridge, Dana survived, but her husband Warren was never found. Eventually she had no choice but to presume he was dead . . .
Nine years later, on a rainy evening, Dana is driving home when she passes a panhandler who resembles her vanished husband. Soon the memories of his disappearance and the trouble she had put behind her all come flooding back, and she becomes obsessed with finding the mysterious man.
But her search only stirs up more trouble. Can she explain what she's seen to her friends, her in-laws, or even her son? And who is the man stalking her every move? Questioning her sanity and placing herself in danger, Dana has no choice but to keep going if she wants answers . . .
"The book explores a number of themes in 200 short pages: homelessness, loneliness and, above all, the unreliability of both eyewitness recognition and long-term memory. . . . There's a good deal of suspense and some nice twisty writing." --The Washington Post
"An absolutely golden ending . . . a novel you'll want to spend one more day with." --Terri Schlichenmeyer, "The Bookworm Sez" syndicated columnist
