Prison on Fire I & II

Having committed manslaughter while defending his grocer father from a holdup, Hong Kong adman Lo Ka-Yiu (Tony Leung Ka-Fai) drew a three-year stretch in prison. He'd make a quick and necessary friend out of hardened inmate Chung Tin-Ching (Chow Yun-Fat) as the fresh fish runs a gauntlet of gang factions and corrupt guards. Ringo Lam's gritty lockup opus "Prison on Fire" (1987) also stars Roy Cheung, Frankie Ng, Shing Fui-On, William Ho. Chow returns as Chung in Lam's follow-up "Prison on Fire II" (1991), now having made multiple escapes to get to the side of his orphanage-sent son... and having incurred the wrath of new head bull Zau (Elvis Tsui).
