Princess Gina wants to be an astronaut - but the King insists that princesses belong at tea parties, not rocket ships. When her big brother, Prince Leo, disagrees, he builds her a backyard Space Camp filled with gravity experiments, wobbly "lunar landings," strange space food, and spinning rocket rides. Through weeks of hard work, laughter, and a few dizzy stumbles, Gina proves that determination - not the King's permission - is what launches a person toward their dreams. This heartfelt story ends with a real, moon-shaped hot air balloon and a lesson every child can carry with them: big dreams just need hard work and wings.
This edition has been specially adapted for children with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), a neurological condition in which healthy eyes send clear images to a brain that struggles to interpret them. Rather than changing the story, this adaptation changes how it's presented on the page, including:
- Enhanced Readability - Large, 32-point, high-contrast Calibri text with generous spacing between letters and lines, making words easier to distinguish and track.
- Mindful Design - Simplified illustrations isolated on clean, uncluttered white backgrounds, removing the busy scenes and visual competition that can overwhelm CVI-affected vision.
- Visual Anchors - Careful use of high-visibility, singular colors such as red, yellow, and orange to help draw and hold visual attention where it's needed most.
Prince Leo and the Space Camp is part of The Prince Leo Collection, a picture book series following young Prince Leo, his sister Princess Gina, and little brother Gabe as they learn what it means to grow up with courage, kindness, and a big heart. The collection is available in both standard and CVI-friendly formats so that every child - regardless of how they see the world - can share in the same stories.
A portion of proceeds from this CVI-friendly edition is donated directly to institutions that support, educate, and empower children living with CVI and their families.
