In Remadrín, a small desert town, a group of strangers steals the ballot boxes right under the voters' noses on election day. After the massive protests joined by Salomón and Papías, sons of Trinidad --a greedy and cowardly shopkeeper who opposes the dangerous passions of his children-- comes the brutal repression by the army, blocked roads, the dead, the disappeared...
Blunders and misunderstandings also unfold, driven by the sinister mayor Romero Pomar, who refuses to step down. And so, as his fate hangs in the balance and ghosts roam the streets, a swaying cargo truck drops a dead body, then another, and another still, along the winding road that leads out of town.

Daniel Sada (Mexicali, 1953-Mexico City, 2011). Owner of an unmistakable prose style, he wrote more than twenty books of poetry and fiction. At Tusquets he published the novels Albedrío, Porque parece mentira la verdad nunca se sabe, and Una de dos, the latter adapted into a film by Marcel Sisniega in 2002. His work was translated into German, French, Dutch, English, and Portuguese. He received the Xavier Villaurrutia Prize (1992), the José Fuentes Mares National Literature Prize (1999), the Herralde Novel Prize (2008), and, just hours before his death, the .
Daniel Sada (Mexicali, 1953-Ciudad de México, 2011). Dueño de una prosa inconfundible, escribió más de veinte libros de poesía y narrativa. En Tusquets publicó las novelas Albedrío, Porque parece mentira la verdad nunca se sabe y Una de dos, adaptada al cine por Marcel Sisniega en 2002. Su obra fue traducida al alemán, francés, holandés, inglés y portugués. Obtuvo los premios Xavier Villaurrutia (1992), Nacional de Literatura José Fuentes Mares (1999), Herralde de novela (2008) y, unas horas antes de su fallecimiento, el Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes.
