The best poetry is honest, freshly expressed, and addresses the experiences all humans share. Between these covers you'll find humor, whimsy, passionate love, anger, and the terrible, lingering loss of two much loved wives to Alzheimer's Disease.Care-takers of loved ones suffering from dementia will find hope and inspiration in this book. The author lived -- and stubbornly loved -- through the heartache and exhaustion twice, without bowing to despair. Gerald Spindel's life has stretched over, or more accurately, embraced, 90 years. In that near century he has been a soldier, a script writer, a salesman, a double college dropout, the owner of a hardware store, and a synagogue president. More importantly, he has been a father, a husband, and a grandfather. From the age of eight, he has taken notes on his life. This book is a collection of his poetry, mostly written -- often through pain -- from the wise perspective of his later years.

Gerald Spindel has been scribbling verse since he was eight, in 1933. He was born and raised in New York City, graduating from De Witt Clinton High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-46, as an aerial gunnery instructor. After the war, he enlisted as a student at NYU and Columbia University, but dropped out of both. He tried his hand at script writing, accumulating a small pile of rejection slips. In 1962, he packed up his wife and two young sons and drove west until he hit the Pacific. He became a successful salesman in San Francisco, a city he loves. He lost both of his wives to Alzheimer's Disease.
