In a near future, Japan will address the explosion in it's geriatric populace by offering voluntary euthanasia at age 75. The fraught ramifications of the program are explored through the experiences of an eligible and just-fired hotel maid (Chieko Baisho); a young, eager customer rep (Hayato Isomura) given fateful pause in his enthusiasm; and a Filipina immigrant (Stefanie Arianne) working an unsavory processing job, in director Chie Hayakawa's sobering opus. 113 min.
