Phineas Finn is a novel by the English author Anthony Trollope, first published in 1869. It is the second book in the Palliser series, which follows the political and personal lives of the aristocratic Palliser family and their associates in Victorian England. The novel tells the story of Phineas Finn, a young Irishman who comes to London to pursue a career in politics. He is initially unsuccessful, but through a combination of luck, charm, and political savvy, he rises through the ranks and becomes a member of parliament.Along the way, Phineas becomes embroiled in a number of personal and political conflicts. He falls in love with two women, Lady Laura Standish and Madame Max Goesler, and must navigate the complex social and political dynamics of their respective circles. He also finds himself caught up in a scandal involving a fellow MP and must decide whether to stand by his friend or risk his own reputation.Throughout the novel, Trollope explores themes of love, ambition, loyalty, and the corrupting influence of power. He paints a vivid portrait of Victorian society, with its rigid class structures, political intrigues, and social customs. At the same time, he creates a compelling and sympathetic protagonist in Phineas Finn, a flawed but ultimately heroic figure who struggles to balance his personal and political aspirations with his sense of honor and duty. That terrible apparition of the red Lord Chiltern had disturbed Phineas in the moment of his happiness as he sat listening to the kind flatteries of Lady Laura; and though Lord Chiltern had vanished as quickly as he had appeared, there had come no return of his joy. Lady Laura had said some word about her brother, and Phineas had replied that he had never chanced to see Lord Chiltern. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
