During his service as an army chaplain, he was awarded the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star for Valor. While working as a Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor, he developed an international chaplaincy ministry that has expanded to more than 3,000 trained and endorsed chaplains, serving in 73 different countries.
