The group was founded in Cuba in 1956 by flautist Melquiades Fundora as a Charanga orchestra and have survived in the hearts of Cuban music fans as one of the very best practitioners of the style. Their wonderfully pure, organic recordings have been prized by collectors of Cuban music all over the world.
