Ordinary Mystics: Psychedelics, Faith, and the Reclaiming of Direct Spiritual Experience - Hardcover

Discover an Ancient Way to Meet the Sacred

For thousands of years, humans have met the Divine through sacred mushrooms. Today, ordinary Americans are quietly finding their way back to that practice, in living rooms, churches, and clinics, and coming home changed. Researchers at Johns Hopkins, NYU, and a growing number of other institutions have documented these as among the most spiritually significant experiences of participants' lives, ranking them alongside the birth of a child or the death of a parent.

Writing as a scholar who serves a faith community that receives psychedelics as a sacrament, Matt Zemon bridges the clinical lab and the candlelit ceremony. Ordinary Mystics is an invitation to discover an ancient way of meeting the Sacred, set within its long history as religious practice, and a rare look inside the communities reclaiming it today.
