On A Piece Of Chalk - Hardcover

""On A Piece Of Chalk"" is an essay written by Thomas Henry Huxley, a prominent British biologist and philosopher, in 1868. The essay explores the geological history of the chalk cliffs found along the southern coast of England, and the significance of the tiny fossils found within the chalk. Huxley uses the chalk as a metaphor for the fragility and impermanence of human knowledge and understanding, arguing that our understanding of the world is constantly evolving and subject to revision as new evidence is discovered. The essay is a classic example of Huxley's clear and concise writing style, and his ability to make complex scientific concepts accessible to a general audience. It remains a popular and influential work in the fields of geology and science writing.THIS 30 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Selections of Huxley, by Thomas Henry Huxley.
