The Oh Hellos' Family Christmas Album: Volume II came to exist in what has now become the typical writing and recording process for the Heath siblings: an interesting but straightforward initial idea that rapidly spins out of control. Not content with only releasing a single to commemorate the ten year anniversary of their first holiday EP, The Oh Hellos pulled inspiration from song arrangements performed on previous tours, medieval motets, moody yuletide carols predating the comfortable glow of mid-20th century nostalgia, and family-holiday-gathering traditions we love to pretend to hate.
