This book is written as a tribute and testimony to God's faithfulness, power and love when facing our darkest hour. This author believes everyone faces some "type of Vietnam" as they navigate through life.

Earth is not heaven. Most times I have found God does not remove hardship. Instead, He goes with us through the darkness. The stars are shining in the daytime, but you cannot see them. This book shares with you, the reader, that it often takes the darkness of night to see the spectacular beauty and grace of God.

Therefore, this book is not about the controversies regarding Vietnam. It is about the wonderful Presence of God during my most difficult circumstances while serving my country there. So often God gets blamed for the evil we see around us, when He is the only One who has done anything about it.

Herbert "Herb" Fuqua served in Vietnam with the Army's 25th Infantry Division carrying an M60 machine gun the majority of his tour, December 1968-December 1969. He returned home as Sergeant Fuqua and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, two Air Medals for over 50 helicopter flights into hostile forces, and the Combat Infantry Badge. Herb is a disabled vet suffering a severe hearing loss from combat and is today battling cancer as a result of exposure to Agent 0range.

Herb and his wife, Yaneth, have been married 56 years. They both accepted Jesus Christ into their lives at a young age and became ordained ministers (officers) with The Salvation Army. They retired after over 38 years of service. Their daughters, Jennifer and Yvette, along with their husbands are in ministry with The Salvation Army, as well. The Fuqua's have five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
