A teacher was found murdered in the school yard at Frank Chase Middle School. Jennifer's first official assignment as a police officer is to interview potential witnesses in the neighborhood, with her new partner Nick Prentice.
Jennifer and Nick are having difficulty contacting a neighbor by the name of Mark Belland, who lives next door to the school. When they finally meet up with Mark, they learn valuable information that could help solve the murder, but the evidence isn't adding up as the investigation continues.
Jennifer chases down a car thief, who is eventually arrested, but what happens after that turns her world upside down. Jennifer's association with the leader of the car theft ring could jeopardize her career and her life.
Lee Patterson worked in various office administration positions for over 40 years before retiring. Serious boredom set in and after reading many crime novels, her imagination took her to the first novel entitled, At the Scene of the Crime, followed by Emeralds in the Rough, Murder in the School Yard, and Terror on the Magnificent Mile.
Lee is married with three children, 10 grandchildren and spends time between Canada and the United States.
