How can I point out all the rules she placed, when the burden of culture is a mother's weight? If I cross a line, we all know which parent is to blame, How could I compare her to sitcom moms who have it all? When our society sets women up to fail and to fall? When I separate my mother from motherhood, I feel her pain, Of all the sacrifices made only to have it thrown back into your face, I'm being cruel I know, I need to learn to let go, The standards that aren't fair, of a fantasy impossible for any woman to achieve, I am trying to let her in, to feel close to me now, To meet in a halfway place between our worlds.
