When a spirited young woman and a reluctant earl meet under borrowed names and mistaken assumptions, sparks fly in the most unexpected-and decidedly inconvenient-ways.
When Countess Beaufort schemes to secure a wife for her son by hosting a lavish "Cinderella Ball," she invites only eligible young ladies her son has never met-and therefore never had the chance to reject.
The Honorable Miss Millicent Spencer, newly returned from America, wants nothing to do with ambitious mamas, titled gentlemen, or the outmoded institution of the aristocracy. Attending the ball only as a chaperon, she is tricked into switching identities with her cousin and must unwillingly meet Earl Beaufort - whom she is certain will be insufferable.
Lord Beaufort, convinced ladies want him only for the title and determined to thwart his mother's latest matchmaking scheme, trades places with an amiable, unmarried parson. It is only for one evening, and none of the guests have ever met either of them. What could possibly go wrong?
Can a firebrand miss and a duty-dodging lord find their happily ever after once the masks come off?
Tropes: Mistaken identity, unconventional heroine, powerful hero, forced proximity, unexpected love, humorous situations.
Theme: Love can hide in the most unexpected places.
