A girl named Rosa proves that girls can be mariachis, too.
Rosa dreams of joining her papá's mariachi band onstage during Día de los Muertos. But every time she asks, Papá has the same response: " No!" With a little help from her mamá, Rosa practices her violin in secret and devises a plan to get on stage during the big celebration. Will all of her hard work be enough to show Papá that mariachi isn't just for men?
Sheila Herrera played the violin as a child and always followed the beat of her own drum. A native-born Texan, Sheila is proud of her Mexican-American heritage. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with a degree in special education, specializing in children with learning differences. Today, Sheila lives in Stuart, Florida, where she writes children's books and helps other writers on their literary journey.
Rodriguez-Unalt, Christina: -Christina Rodriguez-Unalt (C. Rod. Unalt) is an award-winning illustrator committed to expanding Hispanic representation in children's literature. Known for her colorful, slightly spooky style, she blends digital drawing with acrylic paint and colored pencil. She lives in New Jersey with her family and leads a BFA Illustration program that mentors emerging artists to create authentic, voice-driven work.
