About Louisa May Alcott
Born in 1832 in Germantown, Pennsylvania, Louisa May Alcott was the daughter of transcendentalist Bronson Alcott and friend to Emerson and Thoreau. Beyond her literary achievements, Alcott worked as a teacher, governess, and Civil War nurse, while advocating for abolition, women's rights, and temperance. She died in 1888 and is buried in Sleepy Hollow cemetery in Concord, Massachusetts.
