Lest We Forget: Lessons Learned from the Greatest Generation follows the story of a boy born into a poor Midwestern family in 1920-a boy who, by virtue of right doctrine, grew through poverty, personal loss, and the Great Depression to become a man who made a difference in his corner of the world. But that story is viewed through the lens of a bigger picture, one that sees his growth as a microcosm of what was simultaneously taking place across the country, the result of which was victory in the largest and deadliest conflict the world has ever known. What is presented here is not a review of the heroic exploits accomplished by the 1901-1927 American cohort into which that boy was born. Much has been written about those.
