Cancionera - CD

Natalia Lafourcade - Cancionera is a rich, expansive statement that feels both intimate and ceremonial, unfolding across 76 minutes with a deliberate, almost devotional pace. Rooted in son traditions while fluidly embracing jazz, Latin, and pop sensibilities, the album places Lafourcade's voice at the emotional center, surrounded by warm acoustic textures, orchestral flourishes, and meticulous arrangements co-crafted with Adán Jodorowsky. From the inviting sweep of "Apertura Cancionera" through the reflective title track and the sun-washed ease of "Cocos en La Playa," the record balances restraint and grandeur, often letting space, breath, and subtle instrumentation do the storytelling. Highlights like the expansive "El Palomo y La Negra" and the spell-casting "La Bruja (Versión Cancionera)" showcase the album's communal spirit, supported by a large ensemble of strings, winds, percussion, and traditional instruments such as arpa and requinto jarocho, while the closing acoustic versions strip the songs back to their emotional core. Immaculately recorded between Sony Music Studios and Rancho 2y2, and mastered by Bernie Grundman, Cancionera sounds warm, organic, and unhurried, reinforcing it's themes of memory, longing, and musical heritage. It is a deeply immersive work that rewards attentive listening, reaffirming Lafourcade's ability to honor tradition while shaping it into something quietly contemporary and profoundly personal.
