The Lady and the Highwayman

King Charles II is being pursued by a troop of Roundheads when he stops to bid one of his supporters, a Royalist Lord Lucius Vyne (Hugh Grant) farewell, and gives him one of his favorite rings, telling Lucius to send it if he ever needs his help. Meanwhile, Lady Panthea Vyne (Lysette Anthony) is tricked into marriage by a lecherous Drysdale (Ian Bannen). He promises to save her brother Lord Richard, who he says is about to be executed. They get married and Drysdal sexually attacks Lady Panthea and kills her small dog by stomping it to death on the coach floor. A mysterious masked highwayman known as "Silver Blade" (secretly her cousin Lucius) puts a stop to Drysdale's advances and helps our heroine to bury her dog. "Silver Blade" then duels with Drysdale, and runs him through with his blade. Lady Panthea finds herself being accused of the murder of Drysdale, her deceased husband. "Silver Blade" rides to the rescue, giving one of the servants King Charles' ring, indicating that he is in trouble and needs help.
