Separation: Anxiety and Anger clearly illustrates how children react when they are removed from their homes and placed in the care of unfamiliar people.

John Bowlby (1907-1990) was part of the leadership of the Tavistock Clinic and served as a mental health consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) for twenty-two years. This book belongs to the trilogy Attachment and Loss, published by Hogarth Press and Basic Books, whose other two volumes are Attachment (1969), Separation: Anxiety and Anger (1973), and Loss: Sadness and Depression (1980). Bowlby is also the author of A Secure Base (1988), likewise published by Basic Books.
