Japanese Hybrid-SACD pressing. Mordechai finds Khruangbin broadening the trio's psychedelic-funk sound with a greater emphasis on vocals while retaining the fluid guitar lines, warm bass grooves, relaxed percussion, and spacious production that define the group's style. Drawing on funk, soul, dub, disco, and a range of international influences, the album moves easily from the buoyant pulse of Time (You and I) and the handclap-driven Pelota to the meditative atmosphere of Father Bird, Mother Bird and If There Is No Question. The restrained performances and reverb-rich arrangements create a hazy, unhurried flow, making Mordechai an inviting and subtly adventurous album that works equally well as focused listening or an atmospheric soundtrack.
