Description
This was Keman's first experience of Toronto's annual Caribbean Carnival. The excited 8-year-old and his Mother enjoyed the rituals at the Caribbean celebration, such as picking a flag to wave, the Caribbean influenced foods, dancing, costumes and music. Keman is a young, Black Canadian child with Caribbean roots.
About the Author
Marshall, Yolanda T.: - Yolanda T. Marshall is a Guyanese-born Canadian author. In 2015, after becoming a mom, Yolanda was inspired to write her first children's book named Keman's First Carnival. Yolanda is also the author of, A Piece of Black Cake for Santa, Sweet Sorrel Stand, Miles Away In The Caribbean and My Soca Birthday Party: with Jollof Rice and Steel Pans. Yolanda's works have received various acclaims and have been featured on CBC's best Canadian picture books of 2020.C is for Carnival, was published in August 2021 by Chalkboard Publishing. A world traveller, a jazz lover, and a devoted mother, she embodies art and takes her readers on adventurous, cultured journeys. Yolanda lives in Toronto, Canada, with her family.
