Hailing from Brooklyn, John's professional music career began in 1953 when his group was originally formed as The Troubadors, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, New York. At the tender age of 18, John's first American tour was in 1956 with Ray Charles, The Moonglows and countless other groups. Having toured the world over the course of 70 years, John has witnessed pivotal historical and political events such as apartheid in South Africa, The Black Power Movement, Belfast Bombings and 'The British Invasion'.

Cheatdom, John: - Doo Wop master John originally came from the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn along with Jerome "Romeo" Ramos, Marvin Holland and Sammy Gardner where they formed "The Velours", an American R&B vocal group and had two hits in the US in the late 1950s, "Can I Come Over Tonight" and "Remember". They relocated to England in the late 1960s, changed their name to "The Fantastics", and had a top ten hit in the UK in 1971 with "Something Old, Something New". Remaining in England, John formed "The Realistics" in 1976. The group broke up in 1983, when John then joined various unofficial line-ups of "The Platters", aka "The Magic Sound Of The Platters", who toured internationally.John is still performing live today and recently released his autobiography 'Keeping Doo Wop Alive" by Conscious Dreams Publishing, subtitled "One man's story of strength, stamina and survival as an international entertainer."
