Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo: A Global Choral Celebration
Jubilate Deo by Dan Forrest presents a groundbreaking interpretation of Psalm 100, "O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands," through seven distinct languages and diverse musical traditions. This major choral work spans 45-50 minutes and creates a stunning celebration as voices from around the world unite in song.
Multilingual Movements and Musical Diversity
Each movement draws from the musical characteristics of its respective language-group while maintaining the composer's distinctive voice. The work progresses through liturgical Latin, intertwined Hebrew and Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, Spanish, an untexted "Song of the Earth," and concludes with a powerful finale combining multiple languages with English. This structure transforms the traditional psalm text into a global statement of joy and unity.
Scoring and Performance Requirements
Scored for mixed SATB choir with soprano and alto soloists, plus optional treble choir. The flexible instrumentation accommodates various performance contexts through three available versions, each designed for different ensemble sizes and budgets.
Three Instrumentation Options
